What To Do When…
You find a stray Pet.
- Check for name tag on collar (if it has one).
- If you have a digital camera, take a picture of it as close as you can
without blurring it.
-
Telephone:
1) All vet surgery’s in your local area.
2) Telephone
all the animal shelters like the R.S.P.C.A. – N.C.D.L.
3) Telephone all animals sanctuaries. Give a full description
of the animal that you
have found to ALL of them and even better if you can give them
a picture of the found animal.
- Post a picture and full details
on our site free of charge.
- Put up fliers in your area .
- Contact your local newspapers and those in the surrounding counties
(don’t
forget, dogs & cats can stray a few miles into the next
county)
- When people lose a much loved pet, they will telephone
the local animal shelters, rescues, animal sanctuaries, vets
and police. By doing
these simple and inexpensive things, you stand a greater chance of getting
the animal re-united very quickly.
- Put a flier in your front window
if possible.
- Keep reminding those you have told. Every 3 days is a
good prompting.
- Finally, think about keeping the animal in your home
until the owners are found as the animal may be scared and confused.
Putting the animal
in the local shelter or sanctuary will put a strain on their resources and
some will destroy the animal after a week or so, it will even make
the poor
animal more anxious.
